For fans of 'Percy Jackson' (Rick Riordan):

The Shadow Thieves

Common themes: Greek mythology

Author: Anne Ursu
Series: Cronus Chronicles
Publisher: New York: Atheneum Books for Young Readers, 2006

A range of strange occurrences in Charlotte’s life culminate in her journey to the underworld. Where she must face Greek mythological creatures and figures in order to find a cure for her ailing friends, suffering from a strange, threatening illness. Charlotte is accompanied by her cousin Zee, who too has to solve the very same mystery plaguing his own friends back at home.

While being a unique story in its own right, The Shadow Thieves shares many similarities with Percy Jackson, namely it is written in the fantasy genre and is mythological fiction. Thematic similarities include friendship, Greek deities, and hell as a location. Both stories also contain humour.
